Since October 1998, the American Geosciences Institute has organized Earth Science Week (October 12-18) as a national and international event to help the public gain a better understanding and appreciation for the Earth Sciences and to encourage stewardship of the Earth. This year's Earth Science Week will be held from October 12-18 and will celebrate the theme "Earth's Connected Systems."

Eagle Rock Elementary will participate in National Walk to School Day, this Wednesday, October 8. Walk to school with your family, or join with other families at one of the following meeting spots at 7:40am and walk to school together:
  • Women’s 20th Century Club (Colorado Blvd & Hermosa Ave)
  • Yosemite Rec Center (in front, 1840 Yosemite Drive)
  • Senor Fish (Eagle Rock Blvd & Norwalk Ave)
  • Christian Assembly Church (Colorado Blvd & College View Ave)

Stop by the Lunch Pavilion when you get to school to get a sticker for participating!

Enjoy car free streets @CicLAvia returns Sunday 10/5 (9a-4p) | Fun for All |Skate | Ride | Walk

CicLAvia temporarily removes cars from L.A. streets - and the streets fill up with smiles!

CicLAvia catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through car-free streets.  CicLAvia engages with people to transform our relationship with our communities and with each other.

CicLAvia makes the streets  safe for people to walk, skate, play and ride a bike. There are activities along the route. Shop owners and restaurants are encouraged to open their doors to people along the CicLAvia.

Ciclovías started in Bogotá, Colombia, over thirty years ago as a response to the congestion and pollution of city streets. Now they happen throughout Latin America and the United States.

ERMF is a vibrant, community street festival which showcases innovative, multicultural and local music every October. We invite you to historic Colorado Boulevard. Listen, eat, and dance to the best of Northeast Los Angeles and beyond.

End the Summer with “Sunset Blvd” (10/4 @ 7p) Echo Park Lake @MitchOFarrell @EPFCfilmmobile

Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell, the Department of Recreation and Parks, and the Echo Park Historical Society will present  the film noir classic  "Sunset Boulevard" - compliments of Paramount Pictures - on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Echo Park Lake. Before the film begins, the EPHS will hold a  meeting and history discussion starting at  6:00 p.m.   

Bring a blanket, chair and your own picnic and enjoy a movie under the stars. The film will be screened in the northwest corner of the park near Glendale Boulevard and Park Avenue. 

The Echo Park Film Center will start the evening with a few of their student shorts and then the feature production.

Machine Project continues their residence Machine Project Field Guide to The Gamble House which includes experimental tours and dances, group naps, operatic bird beaks, seances, videos, architectural lawn furniture–and a secret Swiss-Japanese fusion restaurant–transform and reveal the history and visual ideas behind the Gamble House in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

This Thursday night 10/02 from 8-10pm. Hear the rose-vortex in its full musical glory, treat yourself to a private poetry reading in a historic closet! Performances by Patrick Ballard, Milka Djordjevich, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, and others will accompany self-guided tours throughout the evening.

Family Day (Free for kids 17 and under)

The 2015-2016 Choices Application period has opened and is open to students in grades K-11, living within the boundaries of the LAUSD. All District students, including English Learners, Special Education, and Gifted/Talented are encouraged to apply. Apply Online!

The CHOICES application offers you four different program options: Magnet Program, Magnet 
plus CORE Waiver Priority School Matriculate Choice Program (PSMCP), CORE Waiver PSMCP, or
the Permits With Transportation Program (PWT).

 The deadline to apply for one of the program options is November 14, 2014 by 5 PM.
