Local Control Accountability Plan session hosted by Board Member Bennett Kayser | Tues 2/24 (6-8p) 

Tuesday, Feb 24th from 6-8pm - Our Board of Education Representative, Bennett Kayser, and Government Relations Department will host in Eagle Rock's auditorium a community meeting. Topic is LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) Update. This is open to the whole area community.

An opportunity to provide feedback on the LAUSD's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).  Make sure your voice is heard in decisions to revise the Local Control Accountability Plan and ensure all youth are achieving in the LAUSD.

@LASchools @LAUSDMagnets Options Application period is open | Oct 1 thru Nov 14

The 2015-2016 Choices Application period has opened and is open to students in grades K-11, living within the boundaries of the LAUSD. All District students, including English Learners, Special Education, and Gifted/Talented are encouraged to apply. Apply Online!

The CHOICES application offers you four different program options: Magnet Program, Magnet 
plus CORE Waiver Priority School Matriculate Choice Program (PSMCP), CORE Waiver PSMCP, or
the Permits With Transportation Program (PWT).

 The deadline to apply for one of the program options is November 14, 2014 by 5 PM.

Meeting Reminder | Thurs, 09/11 at 3:00p Multipurpose Rm (MPR) | Taking a Knee

Please join our Principal, Ms. Stephanie Leach and members of the School Behavior Team to discuss the new policy of “taking a knee” after recess and lunch bells.  

A few parents from our school community will be elected as parent representatives on this committee to regularly participate as active members of the team to work through all the various aspects of implementing the LAUSD Discipline Foundation Policy.

Heat Wave

Hydrate! |Check Family, Neighbors & Pets | Many City facilities serving as cooling centers #ReadyLA

To provide the public with relief from the heat, City of Los Angeles facilities are utilized as cooling centers. Those facilities include Senior Citizen Centers, Recreation and Parks facilities, and Libraries. 
 
If you plan to be outdoors, please take precautions to protect yourself from the sun and heat.  
  • Avoid the sun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the burning rays are strongest. 
  • Reduce physical activity. 
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and light colored lightweight, loose-fitting clothes when you are outdoors 
  • Avoid hot, heavy meals that include proteins. 
  • Set your air conditioner between 75° to 80°. If you don’t have air-conditioning take a cool shower twice a day and visit a public air conditioned facility. 
  • Drink plenty of fluids even if you are not thirsty. Avoid alcohol. 
  • Use sun screen with a sun protection factor of at least 15 if you need to be in the sun. 
  • Symptoms of dehydration and heat cramps include dizziness, fatigue, faintness, headaches, muscle cramps and increased thirst.

Every Friday thru May @ Spirit Assembly & Saturday 5/31 8a-11a Curbside Dropoff on Fair Park Ave

The Eagle Rock Elementary Annual Paper Drive is on!  Last year through your generous contributions, our school community donated enough multi-purpose white paper to make it though half of the school year.  THANK YOU!

As our school continues to improve its use of paper; however, there is still a tremendous volume of paper usage on account of flyers, forms, etc.  Please consider making a donation of White, 8 1/2 inch x 11 inch Multipurpose (20 lb) paper.
  • Donate a ream!  *  Donate several reams!
  • Donate a case!  *  Donate multiple cases!
  • Find a corporate sponsor to donate palettes!

Donations are being accepted every Friday at the Spirit Assembly in addition to our Curbside Dropoff event scheduled for Saturday, May 31 from 8:00a - 11:00a on Fair Park Ave.

#Earthquake #Preparedness

Recent tremors remind | Are you ready? Take a break 2 plan @ECA @ReadyLA @Readygov

Living in Southern CA means experiencing the occasional earthquake.  The recent string of quakes over the last 2 weeks, Westwood M4.4 (3/17), La Habra M5.1 (3/29) and Rowland Heights M4.1 (3/29) is another reminder to assess your preparedness and develop a plan for you and your loved ones.  

April is Earthquake Preparedness Month, it has been recognized since the April 1906 San Francisco earthquake and continues to be supported by the state assembly urging all Californians and government agencies to engage in education, evaluation of seismic hazards, mitigation, safety activities, and the exchange of information related to earthquake preparedness with other states and nations.
