DST was first adopted to replace artificial lighting so they could save fuel for the war effort in Germany during World War I at 11:00pm (23:00) on April 30, 1916. It was quickly followed by Britain and many countries from both sides, including the United States. Many countries reverted back to standard time post-World War I, and it wasn’t until the next World War that DST would make its return to many countries in order to save vital energy resources for the war.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted year-round DST in the United States, called “War Time” during World War II from February 9, 1942 to September 30, 1945. The law was enforced 40 days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and during this time, time zones were called “Eastern War Time”, “Central War Time”, and “Pacific War Time”. After the surrender of Japan in mid-August 1945, the time zones were relabeled “Peace Time”.

This Monday, March 2 marks the 2015 observance of Read Across America Day and recognizes the birthday of Dr. Seuss while encouraging all to read to children. Our school will also observe the following Spirit Activities:

• Mon (3/2): Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character and learn about Dr. Seuss
  
• Tue (3/3): Wear Red, White and Black today and read The Cat in the Hat
  
• Wed (3/4): Dress Up Like the "Future Me" and join this year's theme: Oh, the Places You'll Go!
  
• Thu (3/5): Crazy Sock Day and speak in rhyme like the Fox in Socks
  
• Fri (3/6): Green and White eat some green eggs and ham and have a crazy day!

Local Control Accountability Plan session hosted by Board Member Bennett Kayser | Tues 2/24 (6-8p) 

Tuesday, Feb 24th from 6-8pm - Our Board of Education Representative, Bennett Kayser, and Government Relations Department will host in Eagle Rock's auditorium a community meeting. Topic is LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) Update. This is open to the whole area community.

An opportunity to provide feedback on the LAUSD's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).  Make sure your voice is heard in decisions to revise the Local Control Accountability Plan and ensure all youth are achieving in the LAUSD.

Kindergarten tours for In-Boundary Parents for Eagle Rock Elementary

The tours will all start at 8:30am in the front of the school and the dates are as follows:

2) Thursday, February 26th
3) Monday, March 9th
4) Monday, March 23rd

Grand Reopening of #FrankLloydWright ’s #Architectural Icon Fri, 2/13 at 4:00p #BarnsdallPark

Friday, February 13, 2015 will see the official reopening of Frank Lloyd Wright’s famed Hollyhock House, an iconic architectural masterpiece in the heart of the vibrant, artistic, cultural, and recreational Barnsdall Park. To mark the occasion, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell will lead an Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the project’s collaborators at 4:00 p.m. at the Hollyhock House on February 13, 2015.
